READING THEMATICALLY

To help students appreciate historical fiction, 20 lesson plans guide students through the process of thinking, reading, speaking, researching, and writing their way from pondering larger questions (like "why visit the past?" and "whats the difference between history and historical fiction") to building specific skills (including summarizing, skimming for information, identifying themes, finding hidden meanings, separating fact from opinion, and recognizing stereotypes).
