SEASONS
A Squared Away Unit
Downloadable version (28.8 MB)
DownloadStudent teams assemble their own tabletop Seasons Observatories to investigate the mechanics of the seasons. Using their models, they investigate obliquity, track the subsolar point, observe the terminator, determine the Arctic and Antarctic Circles, collect data on daylight length, and prove why seasons are opposite in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Four instruction blocks each require two to four class periods (depending on student ability), and a fifth assessment offers a bonus challenge for more advanced students. The teacher’s guide provides model patterns, lesson plans, pre- and posttests, practice exercises, extension activities, individual and group assessments, and rubrics. Grades 5–8. 8½" x 11". Interact. 172 pages. ©2014.
