SPACE PROBE
A Math Simulation in Which Students Develop Scientific Probes to Explore the Universe
Simulation, chart
Learning concepts and skills such as pi and its relationship to circumference and scale drawing, student “research companies” create small-scale models for three types of space probes: rotor, cylinder, and glider. In the process, students expand their knowledge of metric measurement, apply formulas, use statistics, and graph results. Activities, research assignments, Above and Beyond Challenges, and Flight Logs earn groups Mission Control Credits, which are spent on bid fees to win probe-building contracts. Includes a Class Financial Summary Chart. Designed for 15 class periods. Grades 4–8. Interact.
