Designed to give students success as beginning dramatists, this standards-based, all-in-one unit covers the rudiments of playwriting in ten carefully crafted lessons. Over a period of approximately six weeks, students write dialogue, develop characters, build conflict, and use improvisations to complete a portfolio of dramatic writing or to create a three-scene play. During the seventh week, performances can be scheduled for culmination and assessment. Housed in a three-ring binder with tabbed dividers, contents include a guide with unit overview and setup directions, daily lesson plans (with sidebar teaching tips and suggested timing), instructional handouts, sample scenes, and examples of student-written plays.
