Integrate six art forms—creative movement, drama, music, poetry, storytelling, and visual arts—into the social studies classroom using research-based, practical strategies.
This thorough resource presents five strategies to support each art form, and each strategy is exemplified by a sample lesson. At the end of each lesson are suggestions for grade-specific adaptations. To integrate dialogue poems, for example, it is suggested that grades 9–12 write poems considering the moral dilemmas of Nazi officers involved in the Holocaust, while grades K–2 could compare and contrast cities and farms. Included are lists of materials and procedures, discussion questions, planning guides, templates, and a CD with reproducible teacher resource materials and student activity pages. Aligned to Common Core State Standards.
