The physical changes that come with puberty can make teenagers hyperaware—and hypercritical—of their bodies, explains this no-nonsense presentation. Since some teens fixate on a perceived physical flaw and develop body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), the program spells out symptoms and some dos-and-don’t’s for helping friends with BDD. Viewers learn how body image affects self-esteem, but are also told that physical attributes are superficial, so it is wise to base self-esteem on accomplishments, character, and positive inner qualities.
