THE IMMUNE RESPONSE
DVD
Animated graphics illustrate a fairly technical overview of the three levels of the immune response. The first level comprises skin, mucus membranes, natural secretions, and natural flora. The second level comprises protein-based responses (cytokines, interferons, and complement proteins) and cell-based responses (natural killer cells; phagocytes including eosinophils, neutrophils, and monocytes; and inflammation; clotting; and fever). These levels are said to be general defenses, while the third level identifies and fights specific pathogens through cell-based responses (T cells) and humoral immunity (B cells).
