WRITING MATH

In creating a classroom "math museum," for example, each student brings in an object with numbers on it—a clock, an old license plate, a cereal box—and writes the object’s museum description card. Other multi-day activities involve writing "number stories," constructing polygons from toothpicks and mini-marshmallows, buying and selling old toys in a "white elephant sale," analyzing the contents of a week’s trash, studying the Chinese calendar, and completing seasonal activities for fall (graphing apple varieties), winter (folding wrapping paper), and spring (growing a plant and measuring its progress).
