Xi’an, which lies by the Yellow River, is one of the birthplaces of Chinese culture and civilization. It was the capital city of the Tang dynasty and the starting point of the Silk Road. Here, merchants and artists from all over the world met, creating an exceptionally vibrant, festive culture in which women enjoyed equal status and took part in all activities of social and cultural life. This program takes viewers to places that reveal the city’s history, including the excavation site of Emperor Qin Shihuangdi’s terra cotta warriors, sites of Tang culture, treasures in the museums, a performance of colorful dancing and music from the Tang era, the imperial tombs of the Han and Tang eras, Buddhist rituals in a famous temple, the city’s Muslim district, and the Great Mosque of Xi’an.
