After learning about snafus in previous Allied invasions, students become "experts" on a logistical subject (weather, strategy, location, or coordination), before convening in groups to develop and submit invasion plans.
The simulation closes with comparisons to the actual strategy devised by Allied commanders, as well as a Socratic seminar on larger questions about the conduct of WWII. The teacher’s guide includes procedures, pre- and posttests, “secret” documents, and rubrics. Extension activities involve researching and writing about famous campaigns and military leaders. Time: 5–7 class periods.
