MISSING PERSONS

Secretly assigned a fictional character to impersonate, students fill out a "missing persons" report on their character using beginning literary analysis (e.g., characterization, mood, point of view, plot, conflict).
Students score points by creating challenging clues to their characters’ identities while completing various literary-skills activities. As well, they become library detectives by examining classmates’ files, culminating in a costumed lineup in which students attempt to solve other students’ mystery identities. The teacher’s guide provides procedures and reproducible handouts, while the student guide gives procedures, a model “missing persons” report, optional activities, and a scorecard. Time is completely flexible, and should be based on students’ abilities.
