PUNCTUATION STATION

Alone or in pairs, students complete activities such as creating comic strips, writing letters, and mining biographies for "quotable quotes" while on a train trip centered on the proper use of punctuation.
Each of five destinations includes four or five lessons on a particular punctuation mark (periods, exclamation points, question and quotation marks, and commas). As a culminating activity, students create autobiographical "Me Mobiles" incorporating all they’ve studied. The teacher’s guide provides complete procedures, handout masters, and assessments; the 34" x 22" map helps chart students’ progress. The entire simulation runs for 27 class periods, though most individual activities may stand alone.
