CLASSROOM CAMPGROUND
Using the Internet and other resources, student groups plan their excursion, choosing appropriate gear for protection, and learn to orient themselves with a compass. Creativity blossoms as campers create weather poetry, and design safety posters. A Safety Rap gets campers reciting rules as they learn about plants and insects, and assemble First Aid kits. Predator and prey role-playing helps develop an understanding of animals and their habitats. It’s a fish’s life as campers examine fish, what makes them tick and laws that protect them. The culminating activity is a Campfire Sing-Along where students share their experiences with their parents. Unmodified, 15 class periods.
